The gap between clearing and selling

Importers plan the shipment carefully and then discover that the hard part is the week after arrival.

Stock has landed. It may have cleared. It cannot yet be sold, because it has not been released. It cannot sit in a general warehouse, because it is medicine. And every day it spends in the wrong place is both a cost and a risk to its condition.

What is needed is a licensed facility that can receive it, hold it in quarantine under proper conditions while release happens, and then move it into saleable stock cleanly.

Receiving imported stock properly

The receiving step is where import problems are either caught or inherited:

• Condition on arrival — checked and recorded, including any temperature logger travelling with the shipment.
• Quarantine — physically separated from released stock, not merely flagged in a system.
• Batch and expiry captured — at receipt, into the system, so traceability starts on day one.
• Remaining shelf life checked — short-dated stock is a problem far easier to raise on arrival than six months later.
• Release — a documented move from quarantine to saleable, with a clear record of who authorised it.

The free-zone question, again

Goods sitting in a free zone are not automatically permitted to move onto the mainland, and a free-zone company licence is not automatically a licence to distribute medicines in the UAE.

Sort the structure before the container sails. This is the single most expensive thing to discover late, and it is discovered late remarkably often.

Why not just store it near the port

Sometimes you should — if you can find licensed pharmaceutical capacity there on terms that suit your volume.

In practice, importers frequently find that port-adjacent storage is plentiful for general cargo and scarce for approved medicine storage in small quantities. The stock has to go somewhere licensed regardless, and one controlled move to a compliant facility is usually better than several moves between convenient ones.

Where the warehouse actually is

SFIMS runs one licensed facility, and it is in Mussafah Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi. We do not operate a separate depot in Jebel Ali, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise on a landing page.

What that means in practice: your stock is held under DOH and MOH approved conditions in Mussafah, and it reaches Jebel Ali on temperature-controlled delivery. For most customers that is the better arrangement anyway — one licensed location, one temperature record, one inventory, rather than stock split across sites with a handover in the middle where the cold chain can break.
